Austin, TX (October 30, 2009) – With an incredible lineup of popular music from motion pictures, the Fantasy Film Scores concert is a great way to kick off the holiday season at the Mexican American Cultural Center, 600 River St, in Austin on Friday, November 13^th at 8:00pm.

The fall 2009 lineup is fresh, fun, and has something for everyone! Fans of “Twilight” will be delighted, as the Austin Wind Symphony has teamed up with Summit Entertainment so that with every general admission ticket purchase, audience members will receive a theatrical one-sheet “Twilight” movie poster and will be treated to haunting music from the film!  Fish and fins more your thing?  No Problem!  Go “Under the Sea” with a symphonic suite from “The Little Mermaid”.  Adventure fans will delight to hear exciting music from “Back to the Future”, “The Witches of Eastwick”, “The Goonies” and 1989’s “Batman”, all performed live! Each member of the audience will also be handed a winning ‘Golden Ticket’ to take a musical journey into the magical world of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.

Austin Wind Symphony – Prelude to a Concert – Season 1: Episode 3: Winds of Change

When the ensemble learns that their friend, and vice president, Shelly Eager has come down with a bad case of the Swine Flu, Conductor Patrick Phillips asks each of the band’s members to sign a card wishing her well. Meanwhile a massive change in venue is decided upon, in order to save money, and expand into the Austin Community. The symphony rehearses music from “The Little Mermaid”, where the conductor reminds them that performing film music requires research, and should not be like performing the part of “Oliver Twist” with the voice of comedian Jeff Foxworthy.

New web series “Prelude To A Concert” set to premiere online this fall!

Just what does it take for a symphonic concert to come together?    Experience the band behind-the-scenes, from a whole new perspective. Witness their journey from the initial down beat of the sight-read to the last note of the grand performance!

Beginning in late September, five minute episodes will be released online featuring members of The Austin Wind Symphony.  Each of the vignettes promises to show the real face of community band, the hard work, the struggles, and the final product of the concert that up until now, has always seemed to be flawless!

“Prelude To A Concert” makes its way online this Fall.

The animated series produced by Kris Kidd Productions is a kid friendly, action packed robot adventure series featuring patriotic characters.

Allyn Lindsey is slated to compose the music for the online series, with the Austin Wind Symphony performing ,and recording the score.  The main titles will also be performed at the Austin Wind Symphony’s upcoming “Fantasy Film Scores” concert on October 9th, at 8pm.

“Automo and the Liberty League” begin their monthly adventures beginning January 2010.

The Austin Wind Symphony (Austin’s VERY OWN Cinematic Symphony) is gearing up for its fall season 2009 and currently has openings in the following sections:

• Violin/Viola
• Trumpets
• Clarinets
• Flutes
• Percussion

Please call 512-532-7944 and leave your name, instrument, and phone number to schedule an audition for Tuesday, September 1st from 6pm – 8pm at Fulmore Middle School (201 E Mary St, Austin TX).  You will be asked to sightread a short passage given at the time of the audition, and are required to have 2 selections (1 fast, 1 slow) prepared to perform.  If selected you will join the full ensemble on September 8 and begin rehearsing for the “Fantasy Film Scores” concert.

Rehearsals are each and every Tuesday evening from 7:30pm – 9:30pm at Fulmore Middle School.  The Concert will be held on October 9th, at 8pm at Bethany Lutheran Church in South Austin.

Jerry Goldsmith is the composer behind some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters.  His epic themes can be heard in everything from “The Mummy”, and “Star Trek: The Motion Picture”, to “Rudy”, and “The Planet of the Apes” and while Jerry Goldsmith may no longer be with us, his unique musical style and structure continues to make an impact in films, and has inspired a whole new generation of composers.

The Austin Wind Symphony announces it’s “Jerry Goldsmith: Sound-Alike Contest” where composers from all around the world can submit a :60 second piece that sounds as if it could have been written by the late Jerry Goldsmith.    You pick the genre, you pick the orchestration, we’ll pick the winner!

One lucky composition will be selected and performed LIVE by the Austin Wind Symphony on October 9th, 2009 as part of their “Fantasy Film Scores” concert.

** CONTEST INFORMATION AND RULES **

1.) The piece should not exceed :60 seconds

2.) All submissions must be emailed in Sibelius or Finale formats to filmscorechallenge@austinwindsymphony.org by September 1st, 2009

3.) Winner will receive an Austin Wind Symphony t-shirt, and an .mp3 of their piece performed LIVE!

THE AUSTIN PLANETARIUM PARTNERS WITH BOB BULLOCK IMAX THEATRE
FOR UNIQUE STAR TREK OPENING NIGHT EVENT

The Austin Planetarium in partnership with the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum IMAX Theatre is
offering stargazers and Star Trek fans a special opening night event for the new film on May
8th at the IMAX theatre in Austin Texas. The Planetarium has rented out the entire IMAX Theatre to
bring this stellar event to Austinites. The event will begin with the Austin Wind Symphony
performing music from Star Trek. The Star Trekkin’ comedy group will be there, and the event will also
feature a Star Trek costume contest. Star Trek style food and drinks will also be provided. The
winner of the raffle for a Zero-G flight with Richard Garriott will be announced before the film begins.

The event begins at 6pm / The show starts at 9:30pm

On May 8th, 2009 @ 8pm The Austin Wind Symphony will fill the air with the triumphant sounds of the Final Frontier.  The “Star Trek” event, scheduled that evening on the plaza of the Bob Bullock History Museum/IMAX Theater will feature  the 40 piece volunteer ensemble performing music from the iconic series, and films.

“I am excited to be conducting the music once again, this time for an audience of trekkers/trekkies who will hang on our every note!” said Patrick Phillips, the symphony’s conductor.  “It gives me a sense of pride knowing that this music continues to live on in the hearts and souls of  fans all around the world.”  Phillips, a well known composer of Trek Fan-films (Star Trek: New Voyages, Starship Farragut) founded the Austin Wind Symphony in June 2005, which is now known as “Austin’s VERY OWN Cinematic Symphony” as the ensemble is dedicated to the sole performance of the music from film and television in each of it’s concerts.

This will be the groups second “Trek” into space, as they successfully performed a themed “Star Trek” concert last October with a special video intro from George Takei,  a fully costumed symphony, and a flurry of “Websclusive” audio interviews with Star Trek composers Gerald Fried (Amok Time), and Ron Jones (STTNG Seasons 1-3).

This event is a fundraiser for the construction of the Austin Planetarium.
