About The Austin Wind Symphony!
The Austin Wind Symphony is a 55 piece, 501C3, volunteer ensemble comprised of Strings, Woodwinds, Brass and Percussion instruments. AWS, founded in 2005 by Patrick Phillips, is dedicated to preserving and performing the music of motion pictures, and television. The ensemble is a “cinematic symphony” in all aspects, performing with audio and visuals to create the ultimate “experience” for Austinites.
Many celebrities have also endorsed the ensemble; “Star Trek’s” Mr. Sulu, – George Takei, “Eight Legged Freaks” star David Arquette, Former US President Bill Clinton, Voice Over Artist Don Lafontaine, “Friday the 13th” composer, Harry Manfredini, and “Blazing Saddles” star, Burton Gilliam.
In May of 2007, “Blazing Saddles” star, Burton Gilliam hosted The Austin Wind Symphony in a concert titled “Music from the Wild West”.
“It really is like a Hollywood Scoring Session!” exclaims Patrick Phillips, AWS conductor. “We hope to inspire a whole new generation into respecting the art of motion picture music… After all, a hundred years from now, won’t John Williams be considered a “classical” composer?”
